Civil War–dated partly-printed vellum DS as president, one page, 15.5 x 5, May 8, 1865. President Johnson appoints Charles Allbright to “the rank of Brigadier General By Brevet.” Signed at the conclusion by President Johnson and countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. The blue seal affixed to the upper left remains fully intact. In very good condition, with a small hole to lower corner area, edge chipping, and intersecting folds. This document comes from just one day before President Johnson officially proclaimed the end of the Civil War.
