1865 - This is a commendation issued to Major Albert G. Lakin for "gallant and meritorious service in the battles of Stone River and Mission (Missionary) Ridge, Tennessee." This battle took place on November 25, 1863 and resulted in over 8,000 casualties on both sides. The 16"x 20" document on parchment is signed by President Andrew Johnson, Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton and Assistant Adjutant General E.D. Townsend. Lakin was a major in the 74th Infantry Regiment of Illinois. There is a notation that this document was recorded at the Adjutant General`s Office on May 30, 1866. This special and unique document is in very nice condition with some very historical signatures saluting a very brave soul. -62028
