<B>Andrew Johnson Letter Signed</B></I> “<I>Andrew Johnson</B></I>”. Two pages, 5” x 7.75”, Greenville, Tennessee, January 27, 1872, to Edgar Cowan. In this letter to the former Senator from Pennsylvania, Andrew Johnson asks permission to publish a letter from Cowan in a local Pennsylvania newspaper. He writes in part: “<I>Would you have any objection to the publication of your letter and my reply to it at this time…The Republicans seem ripe for one presidential term…I would be pleased to hear from you on the posture of our public affairs at present.</B></I>” With the usual fold creases, some soiling on the creases, else very good condition. <I>From the collection of Henry E.
