Vellum DS as president, signed “Andrew Jackson,” one page, 13.5 x 16.5, August 1, 1832. Jackson approves a military appointment. In part: “Reposing special trust and confidence in the patriotism, valor, fidelity, and abilities of Walter Smith, I have nominated and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate do appoint him Captain in the First Regiment of Artillery in the service of the United States.” In very good condition, with mild toning and soiling, areas of paper loss along three of the intersecting folds, and a few small edge chips. The embossed paper seal remains intact at lower left.
