Partly-printed DS, signed “Andrew Jackson” as president and “M Van Buren” as secretary of state, two pages, 11 x 14, January 14, 1831. A patent issued to Stafford Dawley of Annesville, New York, for “a new and useful improvement in the sawing of Boards and Timber in a Saw Mill by means of a Double Tooth Saw.” Signed at the bottom of the first page by Jackson, and countersigned by his secretary of state Martin Van Buren as well as attorney general John MacPherson Berrien. The second page bears a description of the improvement written and signed by Dawley. Intersecting folds, one through a single letter of each signature, scattered light toning and soiling, heavier to second page, some light paper loss to second page, and some scattered light wrinkling, otherwise very good condition. The white wafer seal is worn, but intact, the yellow binding ribbon is present, and Jackson’s signature measures almost seven inches long. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
