American naval admiral (1806–1863) who commanded the Mississippi River Squadron during the Civil War. After his promotion to rear admiral, Foote was on his way to take command of the South Atlantic Blockading Squadron when he died en route on June 26, 1863. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Foote in uniform and holding a sword by J. F. Ryder of Cleveland, signed in the lower border in black ink. In fine condition.
