Soviet statesman and diplomat (1909–1989). TLS signed “A. Gromyko,” one page, 5.75 x 7.75, embossed Soviet letterhead, November 17, 1944. Letter to Frances Perkins, the United States Secretary of Labor, in full: "The delay in replying to your kind note was due to my absence from Washington. Please accept my sincere thanks for your good wishes." In fine condition. Frances Perkins (1880–1965) was an American sociologist and workers-rights advocate who served as the U.S. Secretary of Labor from 1933 to 1945, the longest serving in that position, and the first woman appointed to the U.S. Cabinet.
