Andersonville. Letter, Dec. 25, 1864, 5
Andersonville. Letter, Dec. 25, 1864, 5 -1/2 pp., from Sue Hussey, whose brother Gus arrived a week before from Andersonville Prison, Georgia. She recounts how "he suffered everything but death itself...Seven months in an open field with not even a tent to shield them...Only enough food to sustain life...The only clothing he had was what he was captured in. It is enough to make one's blood run cold to hear his account of those terrible days and make one vow never to show one bit of pity nor mercy to the fiends who can perpetuate such cruelties. Would that every one of them might be swept from the face of the earth...He cannot go back to his regiment until exchanged as now only pardoned. Gus must have had connections to be pardoned from Andersonville." In a schooled hand, somewhat light, but neat and legible.
