Vishnukundin of Vengi, uninscribed Alloyed Copper, 6.17g, “Lion' type, Obv: Roaring maned lion facing right within dotted circle, Rev: Conch shell Sankha in a rayed circle (Similar to Pieper# 758). About extremely fine, extremely rare.
The fabric and metallic composition of the coin is very similar to Pallava coins so it is plausible that it was struck in a southern mint, closer to the Pallava domains. The Vishnukundin and Pallava dynasties fought over the control of paddy-rich heartlands of Andhra Pradesh.
