Central Asia and Greater Gandhara, Scythian Nomads / Yueh-Chihin, Silver Tetradrachm,12.83g, imitative coinage of Indo Greek ruler Eucratides posthumously, Obv: Bust of king wearing helmet, executed crudely, Rev: Dioskuroi on horseback, crude Greek legend “Basileos Megalou Ukratidou”, extra letters “NA” below the horse on right (MAC# 1863-1865). Very fine+, extremely rare. These imitations were largely attributed to migrating bands of Scythian nomds like the Yueh-Chih, out of which emerged later Empires like the Kushans. The letters ‘NA’ below the horse are interesting, because we know of a local Iranian king named ‘Naxshten’ who struck coins in the same type but with his own name.
