Ancient Central India, Chambal/Betwa/Yamuna valley - copper punch-marked coin of a hitherto unknown city state '(Pa?)sutarichha', (c.200-150 BC), unpublished in any source, a new and unique type so far, 3.27g. Obv: Five punches: 1x confluence of two rivers at top left; 1x tree-in-railing in centre, 1x 'Ujjain'-symbol with small 'Ujjain' symbols in orbs to bottom right, 1x large Shrivatsa to top right and 1x Brahmi legend (Pa?)sutarichha. Rev: Small 'Ujjain' symbol punched in a corner.

Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

It is not yet known which ancient Indian region/city '(Pa?)sutarichha' corresponds to. The general fabric of the coin is very similar to cityissues of Erikachha and as such, the location of this city must have been in the same locality of Eastern Malwa or Dasharna. The symbol of 'confluence of rivers' might offer a clue. Nevertheless, this coin is a new and interesting discovery in the genre of post-Mauryan indigenous city-state/regional issues in the greater Gangetic plains.
