Post- Satavahana Central India - alloyed copper coin of Gautamiputra Vishakhadatta (c.150-250 AD), PAIC 932, 7.22g. Obv: a Nandipada enclosed in rectangle, flanked by a standard/sword to the right; Brahmi legend …Gotamiputasa…around.

Good very fine, Rare.

It is not known to which dynasty the king Gautamiputra Vishakhadatta belonged but it is certain that he must have risen to power in the aftermath of the Satavahana power being gradually eliminated from Vidarbha and the regions of Central India immediately to the North. A power struggle appears to have erupted here with the Maghas, the Nagas and the Vakatakas contesting for supremacy.
