Kunindas - alloyed copper unit imitating issues of Amoghabhuti, King of the Kunindas (c.50BC-50 AD), PAIC 1247, 10.05g. Obv: Deer facing right, a female deity holding lotus standing to its right, altar above its back and Shrivatsa between horns; traces of Brahmi legend around. Rev: Group of symbols - six-arched hill topped with an altar, Nandipada, tree-in railing, triangle-headed standard, Swastika, wavy line (river); Kharoshthi legend …nasa Prajapati Dakhasa around.

Extremely fine, Extremely rare.

The coin has unusual metallic composition and weight and conforms to a type found as a single hoard in the early 1980s. Some coins of this hoard were thought to have the legend Prajapati Akhyasa in Kharoshthi on reverse. However, this coin clearly shows the legend to be Prajapati Dakhasa, which is evidently a reference to Daksha Prajapati. As such, this is perhaps the only instance of a coin struck in the name of a Vedic 'Prajapati' progenitor.
