Very fine+, Very rare

The stylistic execution of this coin suggests it to be a product of a different mint, most likely located in the Western part of the Gupta Empire, where the engravers preferred a more slender and 'monumental' expression of motifs close to sculptural depictions. During Samudra Gupta's reign, this mint was at its nascent stage and very few coins of this slender style exist. Judging from available specimens the style proliferated in Chandra Gupta II's reign and later, became the exclusive idiom for Gupta gold coins.
