Ancient India: Gupta Empire - gold dinar of Chandragupta II (c.375-415 CE), 'archer X goddess on throne' type, S. Kumar Class I, var. D.2, 7.59g. Obv: nimbate king standing facing left wearing a short tunic, diadem on his head, holding a bow in his left hand and an arrow pointing downwards in his right, with Garuda standard to left; Brahmi legend Chandra below the king's arm and Deva Shri Maharaja(dhiraja)… (Cha)ndraguptah around. Rev: goddess Lakshmi, nimbate, seated frontally on a throne, resting her feet on a wide lotus-shaped pedestal, holding a lotus in one hand and making a gesture of benevolence (Varadamudra) with the other, Brahmi legend Sri Vikramah to right and a tamgha at top left.
