Gupta Empire, gold dinar of Chandra Gupta II (c.375-415 AD), 'Lion Slayer' type, Altekar Class I (lion combatant), Var. A, 7.83g. Obv: King wearing tunic and leggings, standing in a posture with one leg flexed upwards at the knee, striking at a lion with strung bow; Brahmi legend in margin. Rev: Nimbate goddess, seated in a Lalitasana variant posture (with one leg raised up and the other hanging down) on the back of a couchant lion, facing left. She holds a long-stemmed lotus in one hand and a noose in the other; Tamgha to left and Brahmi legend Sinhavikrama to right.

About extremely fine, Extremely rare.

This is an astonishingly beautiful and well-preserved example of the 'lion combatant' variety.
