Ancient Central Malwa, Vidisha region - uniface uninscribed copper punch-marked coin of post-Mauryan period, (c.250-200 BC), not listed in PAIC, 6.41g. Obv: five punches - 1. River with fishes and turtles, 2. Ornate Shrivatsa over a pedestal, 3. Triangle-headed standard surmounted on a three-arched hill, 4. Tree-in-railing and 5. Composite 'Ujjain' symbol, with small 'Ujjain' symbols within each orb, and superimposed on a taurine-ended cross. Rev: a bold 'lotus' symbol.

Extremely fine, Very rare.

The symbols on the coin are highly elaborate and unusual. Although it is uninscribed, the lotus symbol on reverse suggests an association with the city-state of Bhagila.
