Ancient Hebron & Shell & Tooth Beads
For your consideration in this lot is a collection of Hebron, shell, and tooth beads. Estimated to be between 600 and 800 years old, made in Israel and heavily traded in the Sudan region, Hebron beads were made from Dead Sea salts and the rarest of color are these dark blue-green beads. Because of the war in Sudan, these beads are nearly impossible to find and the price is rising. There are four beads, two are dark turquoise, one is yellow, and one is cream with trailing of red. These four beads are 3/4" wide and from 1/2" to 3/8" long. Three of the beads are round and one has flattened sides. The next four beads are made from a spiral white shell. The shells are 5/8" across. The hole in these shell/beads is very small. The next bead is made from a clam shell. This bead is 1 3/4" to 1 1/8" X 1/4". The stringing hole for this bead runs the length of the bead rather through the thin part. The last bead in this lot is a "Canine" tooth, but it cannot be said from what kind of animal. This bead consists of the tooth and root. The root is the larger part of the bead; the "tooth" part is smaller and split, showing the root cavity. This bead is 1" long and 1/4" wide. These beads are in fair to good condition.
