A large, beautiful coin. This Greek coin (Pamphylia, Side) is a silver tetradrachm of approximately 29MM, minted circa 200-190 BC. The obverse (turned to the back) depicts the goddess Athena in crested Corinithian helmet. Much has been written of Athena, starting with her birth; she springs from her father Zeus's head, fully armored. The reverse (facing forward) shows the goddess Nike holding a wreath. Nike is considered the personification of victory; and this particular depiction is considered by some to be a protoype of heavenly angels. The pendant measures approximately 34MM overall and weighs 20.3 grams.
