In ancient times, hundreds of small city states issued coins which we now describe as "Greek". This Greek coins was minted in Side, a costal area bordering the Mediterranean Sea, located in the region of Pamphylia (present day Turkey). Note the distinctive helmet worn by Athena on the obverse, which is associated with the town of Corinth. Obverse: Athena with Corinthian helmet right. Reverse: Nike advancing left.
