Periodically under Partian control, the kingdom of Elymais is located at the head of the Persian Gulf, in modern day Iran. In Elymaiac coinage it is often difficult to say with certainty just what king is depicted on the obverse. There was typically no writing on these coins, leading to speculation that the issuers were unable to read Greek. Obverse: Bust of a king, with anchor, right. Reverse: Series of dots and dashes.
