Georgous Greek coin pendant (Athens,Attica). This is a silver tetradachm of approximatley 29MM, made between 168/5-50 BC. The reverse, facing forward is an "owl of Athens" , symbol of the city, sacred bird to Athena. The obverse, depicts helmeted Athena, protectress and patroness of Athens. Stories abound of Athena, she is said to have assisted Herakles and Odysseus, and she is credited with the invention of the Quadriga and the war chariot; and the discovery of olive oil. The pendant measures approximatley 34MM overall in diameter and weighs 20.6 grams. The modern bezel is 14k gold. A large impressive pendant, appropriate for a man or a woman.
