Twin-handled pottery jar, made over 4,000 years ago during the Machang Phase (c. 2300 - 2000 BC) of the Majiayao culture, also known as the Gansu-Yangshao culture, from present day Gansu or Qinghai province. The outside of the jar and the inner rim have been decorated with geometric patterns painted onto the surface with mineral-based pigment. Measuring 9-1/4" H x 9-1/2" and in good condition with restoration to a section of the upper rim and large chip from one handle. Ex Smith collection, San Diego. A nice example for the money!
