Modernist writer of short stories and novels. Her sexually explicit journals and correspondence with Henry Miller led to her popular resurgence in the 1970s as a feminist icon and a literary figure of the avant-garde. Signed book: The House of Incest. Limited first edition of 249 copies (this being No. 73). Paris: Siana Editions, 1936. Softcover, 7.5 x 11, 89 pages. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page, “To Thomas - who carries white sponges of knowledge on strings of nerves. Those who write know the process…! Anais Nin Paris, 1936.” On the preceding page, inexplicably, Nin has also written, “To Richard.” In very good condition, with chipping and paper loss along the partially detached and fragile spine and binding, first free end page detached but present, mild toning to pages and covers, several pencil notations to signed page, and some scattered light toning and staining to cover. An important work as this was the the second book published by Nin. Accompanied by an unsigned hardcover limited edition of her book entitled D. H. Lawrence, An Unprofessional Study, her first book published in 1932. RRAuction COA.
