An original Great Eastern Railway locomotive crest from the ‘Claud Hamilton’ class S46 4-4-0, GER 1893. It was mounted on the leading left-hand splasher. Only 10 locomotives carried such crests; this being the fifth to be built, at Stratford, in May 1900. It became LNER 8893 Class D14 from 17th April 1924; was superheated to Class D15 in December 1926, and became Class D15/2 in May 1931; LNER 2504 from 8th September 1946. Final withdrawal came on 12th June 1948 from Kings Lynn and it was cut up at Stratford. This crest would have been removed in early LNER days (See RCTS - Locomotives of the LNER Part 3C). It is in its original paintwork and colourfully illustrates the GER full garter crest lettered “Great Eastern Railway”. Early dark grey, heavy, cast aluminium, 12¼”x15½”, with its back bolts. A rarity indeed.
