An ivory netsuke of a carp.
Early 19th century. Raised up on its fins and balanced by its tail which curves gracefully around to the left. The dorsal fin is curled over softly, the scales are well-carved and the head is nicely stippled. Unsigned. 2in (5.2cm). Provenance: Purchased from R. Koscherak, 1953. Illustrated in Tollner on plate 15 where it is incorrectly credited to the Gichner collection. Exhibited: Delgado Museum, New Orleans, LA (March-April, 1960)
