An ivory netsuke of Sesshu being untied by rat.
By Inada Ichiro (b.1891), Tokyo, 20th century. The rope ends cleverly brought under the boy and used to ring the himotoshi, his loincloth is stained a sage green, his lips are tinged with red and his pupils and eyebrows are in black. Signed on the underside to the left of an open book of poems, Ichiro. 1 1/2in (3.7cm).
