An ivory netsuke in the form of loquats.
By Ohara Mitsuhiro (b.1810), Osaka, , Mid 19th century. A pair of Loquats together with a leaf are attached to a stem, well-carved to simulate bark, with the tips of the two fruits finely and delicately stippled with the rest smoothly polished with a soft light brown finish beginning to patina on the back. A few age cracks developing on the leaf and adjoining fruit. Signed on the cut end of the stem in a polished gourd shaped reserve, Mitsuhiro, plus the 'a' form of his kakihan. 1 3/4in (4.5cm). Provenance: Purchased from R. Koscherak, 1954. Exhibited: Delgado Museum, New Orleans, LA (March-April, 1960)
