An extremely rare Kerr & Binns Worcester chess set, 1858, one side in parian with gilded mouldings to the circular bases, the other side in plain white biscuit porcelain, designed as medieval figures and warriors after Flaxman, rooks in the form of turrets, parian set with standard K & B mark in red enamel, biscuit set unmarked, one parian pawn replaced, other faults and repairs, Kings 3.5 and 3.25in. Thought to be only the second known Kerr & Binns chess set of it's type, the other being at the Museum of Worcester Porcelain. By repute this set was purchased at the dispersal of Mr Binns effects in 1904 £2,000-3,000
