An extremely important CARRIAGE CLOCK with South African War (Boer War) connection, brass cast case of running oakleaf and acorns, plain back hinged door, the dial of white enamel with black arabic numerals, the surround of silvered metal with moulded in relief thistles and leaves to the sides, with 'South Africa' in one top corner, '1900-1901' in the other and a coat of arms to the centre, under the dial a foot soldier, two artillery men with cannon and a mounted rifleman, inscribed within a base cartouche "Presented to - Corporal A.A. Stuart Black - 18th Coy.I.Y - in recognition of patriotic service in - the South African Campaign - Helensburg - June 1901", the timepiece working, lever escapement on platform, the gong occasionally working, one corner of one bevelled glass side broken, piece available, screw to works mount loose - available, key included, needs a professional clean and check-up, with carry handle up, 27cms high.
