An early 18th century lacquered longcase clock, the hood with plain cornice above an arched door with half column angles, the arched brass dial inscribed 'Thomas Gardner in the Minories London', above a painted moon face, the chapter ring with black Roman numerals and Arabic five minute divisions, the milled centre with subsidiary seconds and calendar aperture, enclosed by cast spandrels, the case with moulded arched door, on a skirted panel base, the whole chinoiserie decorated in gilt with figures in pagodas and landscapes within diaper, star and floral border, 8 day movement striking on a bell, dial 42cm (16.5''), 219cm (86.25'' overall), (illustrated - back cover) £3000 - 4000
