An S stacking chair, designed by Verner Panton, 1959/60,
prototype made in 1968 by Bayer Leverkusen for the Fehlbaum Production, raw cast of red "Baydur", slightly smoothed, unvarnished, height 79 cm, width 48.5 cm, depth 60 cm, height of seat 41 cm.
The thermosetting plastic developed by Bayer called "Baydur" was supposed to facilitate the technologically complicated production of Panton's S-Chair. The prototype of the first series by Fehlbaum is heavier, lower and slightly narrower, and the backrest is less upright than in the serial model. A second prototype is in the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein.
