An Ivory Guanyin*, Carved along the curvature of the tusk to depict the Goddess of Compassion pouring water from a bottle, with a fitted wood stand. Early 20th Century, Height: 14 1/4 inches (36.2 cm) Provenance:Inherited from the Collection of William E. Colby. The Colby Collection is most well known for it's Chinese Imperial Robes that were donated and currently shown at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in Minnesota. Many examples from his collection are illustrated and discussed in numerous books on Chinese textiles. [Base cover reglued, surface soiling. This condition report states major condition issues only.]
