An Elkington & Co cast bronze figure of Edmund Burke by J H Foley RA, circa 1865, in full length, the philosopher stands in 18th Century costume on a square base, dark brown patination the base inscribed Elkington & Co Founders & J H Foley R A, London, height 51cm, 20 inches. See Illustration £2000-3000 Footnote: Edmund Burke (1729-97) was a political philosopher who came to enjoy a high reputation as a seer throughout Europe. he predicted the outcome of the French Revolution. he claimed stability was founded in maintaining tradition and avoiding apocalyptic change. This had one important legacy in Britain, the development of gradualism, that changes in our institutions should be small scale, instrumental and mindfull of the head to maintain continuity with the past. A figure executed by John Henry Foley RA (1818-74) and cast by Elkington & Co. depicted a youth at a stream was sold at Sothebys, London on 18 May 2000
