See Illustration £2000-3000 Footnote: Edmund Burke (1729-97) was a political philosopher who came to enjoy a high reputation as a seer throughout Europe. he predicted the outcome of the French Revolution. he claimed stability was founded in maintaining tradition and avoiding apocalyptic change. This had one important legacy in Britain, the development of gradualism, that changes in our institutions should be small scale, instrumental and mindfull of the head to maintain continuity with the past.
