This is a beautiful composite shabti with well defined details and a lovely, warm turquoise-green colour. His smiling face gives him an enormous "presence". He is wearing a tripartite wig and has a plaited beard. He is holding pick and hoe in his rather large, crossed hands, and he has a seed back over his proper left shoulder. The shabti has a back pillar and plinth. There are no inscriptions, so unfortunately we will never know who this smiling person was. Dating: Late Period, after 600 B.C.Dimensions: Height 11.3 cm without base, 14.9 cm including base. Some encrustation and discoloration, a small chip to the tip of the beard and the nose, a little damage to the plinth, some surface wear; all as visible on the photographs. The shabti has a beautiful colour.Provenance: Belgian private collection PDS; previously with Bonhams, sale 11597 of 21 April 2005, part of lot 483; previously UK private collection.
