Ptolemaic Period, ca. 332-30 BC. A large vertical center section of a painted exterior mummy wrapping, gesso over linen, in shades of blue, green, red and cream/white. Panel contains approximately 30 hieroglyphic characters inside framed series of geometric bands. Translated as "An offering that the king gives to Osiris, the Foremost of the West, the Great God, the Lord of Abydos; may he give an invocation offering consisting of bread, oxen, beer and ? for the ka ("spirit") of Tjamy, the son of Shepenwepet." Panels itself measures 31-1/2"L x 4-1/2"W, matte size 39-1/2"L x 12-3/4"W. Professionally conserved and mounted, ready for framing; wear as shown. Due to the delicate nature of ancient gesso, there will be minor flaking during shipment.
