(Edison, 1910s) An Edison Fireside Model B phonograph with an oak wood horn and a collection of 14 wax cylinders. This early method of sound playback was designed to play wax cylinders, before vinyl became popular in the 1930s and 1940s. The oak wood horn, a reproduction with a beautiful rose pattern around the lip, connects to the machine via a small hook. Songs on the 14 Edison Blue Amberol Record wax cylinders include “Where the Moonbeams Gleam,” “Show Me the Way to Go Home,” and two cylinders of the patriotic anthem “Over There.” This Model B, an important early relative of modern record players, worked when tested. Measuring 13.5” x 9” x 29” tall, the Model B is in very good condition with scuffs, scratches, wear from use, and oxidation from age. The cylinders measure 4.5” x tall and 2.5” in diameter and are in good condition with peeling, wear from use, discoloration from age, and nine of the cylinder cases missing their caps. Due to size and weight, special shipping arrangements are required. Please inquire before bidding.
