An Austin 20HP Tractor, See illustration £4000-5000 Note: Herbert Austin introduced the first tractor from his Birmingham plant in 1919. Within a few years drastic price cutting by Fordson forced Austin to concentrate on the closed French market, where tariff barriers kept the American tractor at bay. Austin opened a factory at Liancourt near Paris which is believed to have made about 6000 machines in its 15 year existence. This very original survivor is number 3611 believed to date from about 1930 (the specification plate is held with the tractor's paperwork). It was found in a Bergerac vineyard and over the past couple of years has been carefully overhauled. Its magneto has been checked, engine oil changed and its valves ground in. The Austin is perhaps the most original of the small number in Britain.
