An Art Deco burr-walnut and birdseye-maple dining suite, probably by Epstein, comprising: an extending dining table, the rectangular top having scrolled ends with two additional leaves, on concave panel supports, L 6ft (max.) W 2ft 6ins; five chairs, having ribbed upholstery, one with scrolled open arms; and a sideboard, fitted two drawers and a cupboard with scrolled handles, on rounded square legs, H 3ft W 4ft 6ins Note: By repute, this suite was formerly the property of the great American singer, Paul Robeson. Removed from his London flat during the Blitz, on the instructions of his solicitor, it was stored with other property belonging to an employee of the legal practice at the Newark farm of a friend of that employee. After the war Robeson declined to pay storage charges and the suite stayed with the owner of the farm passing by descent to the present owner. £800-1,200
