<B>An American 'Silver Ivy' Berry Set</B></I><BR>Mark of Gorham, Providence, RI, c.1871<BR><BR>The set comprises a larger oval serving bowl raised on four pierced feet, slightly flaring body with three applied and decorated bands, the rim with a pierced decoration rising to handles at either end; a sugar bowl in the form of a pail, pierced rim decoration only by the handle anchors, the handle in the form of a twisted rope; the creamer also resembling a bowl, the handle formed like a curved stick; a berry soon with an engraved bowl and flaring rim, the handle tipped with the ivy pattern; a scalloped bowl sugar sifter, and a cream ladle; all pieces with gilt interiors, the three holloware items with period monogram <I>ESH</B></I> on one side and date monogrammed <I>1871</B></I> on the other, the three flatware items period monogrammed on the reverse of the tip, all hallmark stamped on the reverse, retailed by Starr & Marcus, presented in the original leather bound case with blue satin lining with the retailer stamp<BR>The berry bowl: 4.7in. high x 8.5in. long The berry spoon: 9.8in. long7 Items <BR><BR><B>Condition Report:</B> Normal signs of wear as appropriate with age; the case shows signs of wear. <BR>
