An 18th century German walnut and crossbanded corner bureau, the later top with a moulded edge above a shaped fall enclosing a fitted interior flanked by four drawers and four long serpentine drawers with brass handles on plinth base, 102 high x 63 deep x 119cm wide, (possibly originally a bureau bookcase) Prov: Chawton Great House, near Alton, Hampshire and thence by descent. Chawton Great House was the home of Edward Austen Knight (1767-1852), brother of the novelist Jane Austen (1775-1817).
