Although some today consider it a racist program, Amos & Andy once reigned supreme in the early days of radio. This tin-litho wind up car celebrates that famous show. I believe this piece comes from the early days of the show, when the open-air taxi played a bigger role in the program. In amazingly good condition, it is all original and all intact. Amos is driving, with a dog in the front seat with him. Andrew H. Brown inhabits the back seat, and both figures bounce up and down, while the wacky front wheels cause the car to sway back and forth when it moves. There are an impressive array of little details on this toy that contribute to its character--lots of writing, a horseshoe hood ornament, a taxi meter flag on the rider's side, an a crank in the front. I will be glad to supply a detailed description of the wear, but in general, there is moderate wear to the wheels, and some light rust inside. This toy comes with a book titled "All About Amos & Andy and thier Creators, Correll & Gosden" published in 1930. The wind up key works, but I couldn't get it to move and didn't want to force it. This dealer has an impressive collection of toys. Please visit our GoAntiques site to view the other pieces we have listed.
