The Ames U.S. Model 1841 Naval Cutlass was manufactured in 1843. The cutlass grip and pommel are nearly identical to the U.S. M1832 Foot Artillery Sword. The cutlass has a sheet brass guard with down-turned quillion. The reverse of the quillion is stamped with the sub-inspectors side initials, "JCB". The cutlass is complete with the original black leather scabbard. The scabbard has a riveted belt loop and 35 reinforcing rivets along the seam.
