This lot consists of: 1) Ames Model 1833 Dragoon Saber with 33 inch, quill back blade with "UNITED STATES" dry-etched in script on the obverse and "N.P.AMES/CUTLER/SPRINGFIELD/1836" on the reverse. The saber has a brass, two-branch guard, pommel cap and down turned quillion. The top of the quillion is stamped with "HKC/ORD" ordnance inspection marks and the side of the quillion is stamped "JM". The saber has a wooden grip with leather cover and brass, piano wire wrap. 2) Civil War, non-regulation Model 1850 Staff & Field Officers Sword with 32 inch fullered blade, acid etched with a spread eagle flanked by trophies and floral sprays on the obverse, and "VS" flanked by trophies and floral spray on the reverse. The blade is not maker marked or inspected. The brass, gold-plated hilt generally follows the regulation pattern but has a large, relief eagle and shield motif flanked by arrows, laurel leaves and a banner with stars in place of the regulation "VS" between the outer guard and the knuckle bow. The sword has a ray-skin grip cover with three-strand wire wrap. The sword is complete with a regulation, black leather and gilded brass scabbard with N. P. Ames markings on the throat. The scabbard is not original to this sword. 3) "Tiffany & Co" marked, Civil War, British pattern 1822 Cavalry saber. The saber has a slightly curved, single fuller, flat back 38 inch blade. The only markings are the Tiffany stamp on the reverse ricasso. The saber has an iron, two branch guard, pommel, backstrap and down-turned quillion. The leather covered grip has a brass, three-strand, wire wrap. A large number of British 1822 pattern sabers were imported by U.S. dealers during the Civil War. The saber has no U.S. property or inspection marks and is missing the scabbard.
