U.S. Model 1832 Foot Artillery Sword, by Ames (1839), 19'' double-edged blade, 25'' overall, with entire hilt is cast brass, grips are molded in a scalloped pattern to suggest eagle feathers; pommel is classic trilobite and decorate on both sides with Federal eagles. Crossguard marked ''MS'' (Massachusetts). Similar to a Roman Gladius but based upon a French pattern used in the Napoleonic Wars. Blade features elliptical cross section with two broad fullers. Leather-bodied scabbard with brass throat and chape. Condition is good. Blade with moderate even corrosion, with even patination to cast grip. Scabbard with repairs; brass hardware has been cleaned and revarnished. Est.: $400-$600.
