American's Food Pledge- 20 Million Tons (Lot of 2) 30" x 20" Artist: unsigned. Printed by the United States Food Administration. A simple and direct poster from the U.S. Food Administration that advertises to the American people that the goal for saving food was 20 million tons. The government had promised 20 million tons of food as aid for the European victims of the war. This was a hefty amount and one which took every single American's cooperation to achieve. Herbert Hoover, head of the U.S. Food Administration, suggested, not mandated, various ways for Americans to save food. Some examples of his ideas are; "Meatless Mondays" and "Wheatless Wednesdays." In addition, Americans were encouraged to plant gardens and grow their own food. These eventually became known as victory gardens. A great lot; perfect for any collection! <r<r Condition-Poster #1-Good; corners wrinkled and dirty, dirt stains and residue on all four corners, cockling from severe fold memory, poster is slightly brittle. <r<r Poster #2-Good; cockling from severe fold memory, diagonal crease from lower corner into the center, dirt stains and residue on upper edge, paper yellowing slightly.
