American percussion target rifle in Germanic schutzen-influenced style signed “L. Auer, Louisville”. The rifle measures approx. 52” overall from the muzzle to the end of the schutzen buttplate, and is approx. .50caliber with heavy octagon barrel which measures 1-1/4” across the flats of the barrel. Half stocked in good quality walnut, good grain, brass scrolled triggerguard, and brass schutzen butt with palm rest.Adjustable target-type rear sight, buck horn barrel sight, double-set triggers, fancy pewter type forend cap with brass tip cleaning rod. The gun shows a heavy brown patina with scattered light to moderateerosion and pitting, some heavier pitting at firing areas and breech. The stock shows some light sanding and small repairs. The rifle shows a fancy plate secured by three screws around lock screw with arrow and wreath. Thebreech shows a tap hole with plug from some sort of sight. The condition is fair to good overall and would restore nicely. The bore is somewhat rough but shows rifling. Guns from Louisville are scarce and desirable. Est:
