American percussion dueling/target pistol marked N. Whitmore, Boston. .36 caliber smoothbore. 10-5/8” medium to slightly heavyweight barrel, 17-1/2” overall, in very good plus to near fine original condition. The barrel shows 75-85% original brown, just some toning and minor pinprick pitting and aging just starting. The lock and breech show 50-70% toning and original case hardening. The varnish wood stocks show a nice burl grain with some small scratches in the varnish, minor handling and use, but generally very good plus to near fine overall. The forend cap is cast German silver, as is the engraved buttcap and barrel key escutcheons. The triggerguard is plain unengraved and browned to match the barrel. The pistol shows a single set trigger and is crisp overall and of a very large size with a grip for a huge hand. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $1,750 - $3,500
