American percussion dueling/target pistol marked “C.H. Herbert, Albany”. The pistol measures approx. 15-1/2” overall with 8-7/8” barrel of approx. .45 caliber smoothbore. The pistol shows a half-stock, saw handle, and pewter forend cap with nicely engraved German Silver triggerguard and buttcap. The metal surfaces show some light to slightly heavy pitting and erosion. Heavier pitting on the lock and firing areas of breech. The stock is fair showing a break at the wrist, repair, small losses, and some refinishing. The escutcheon around the barrel key on the right side of the stock is missing a point of the inlay. The reverse escutcheon shows some dents. The action is working. The pistol shows a “V” notch rear and German silver blade and front sight. The condition is fair to good overall. The engraving on butt is of good quality and shows a foxhead within scrolls. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $1,000 - $2,000
