American flintlock dueling pistol by Keener of Baltimore, MD, circa approx. 1800 – 1815. The pistol measures 14-1/2” overall with 9” heavy octagon barrel which is approx. .65 caliber smoothbore. The pistol is half-stocked in select walnut, nicely checkered at the wrist with iron scroll guard, set trigger, silvery escutcheons around barrel key and generally very good quality. Gold lined touch hole, nicely engraved mounts, silver plaque at wrist. The metal surfaces show a grey patina finish with some light erosion and pinprick pitting. The lock shows traces of gray case hardening. The hammer has been broken and expertly repaired at the neck which is difficult to detect. The stock shows a crack and an old repair and the stock has been lightly refinished. A difficult Maryland maker to find, and one of a few known examples. From the William R. Orbelo Collection. Est: $1,500 - $3,000
